Unbroken Silence

I painted this as my tribute to the Silent Hill series. I snapped a photo of my basement stairs and used that photo as a guide for it.

I always wondered what it would look like if places I knew were to be transformed and taken over by evil just as the places in Silent Hill are. I worked on this painting off and on over about a three month period. Getting all of the perspective lines down was definitely the hardest part for me.

I did the painting from the viewers point of view because I wanted the viewer to feel as if it is them at the bottom looking up at the macabre staircase and trying to decide if they should take the questionable doorway at the top or face the Pyramid Head monster at the bottom. I had a sketch with a person on the stairs and it didn't seem quite as scary. Pyramid Head is at the bottom, beyond the iron bars and obviously hasn't noticed that there is someone at the bottom of the stairs yet. Get up those steps quick and be careful not to slip on any fresh blood....

This may be a first of many in a series but who knows, I may become bored with Silent Hill soon.
